In 1989, Argentinian writer J. L. Borges published his last book called Atlas; a
collection of impressions of places he visited in the remaining years of his life,
at a time where his vision was severely impaired. The places, cities, and the
days were experienced through sounds, spoken languages, smells, memories,
sensations, and the glimpses of light.
The context and connections between each element of the text is shadowed by
the beauty of his words and th the beauty of his words and through the intimate perspective of his
surroundings. Borges writes about places he did not see but remembers
through books, and about photographs of places he visited without seeing, yet
does not recall. Personal and poetic reflections blend seamlessly with literary,
imagetic and scientific references in an almost encyclopedic manner, deeply
connected to his Latin American roots.
The paintings presented in this exhibition are also part of dreams, places and
feelings that populate each part of it, a compilation of imagination, literary and
visual associations of my own experiences. Similar to the chapters of Borges
book, the works reflect upon fragments and impressions of memories attached
to specific locations and times. "All the things in the world lead me to a date or
a book," Borges wrote in one of the pages of Atlas. The book, saturated with
references, reveals little about his travels or the places he visited but rather
more about himself and his unique perspective on the world.
